Bruggeman, who transitions from retired high school teacher to “mayor of Peteyville” during the holiday season, expressed his excitement as he and his crew meticulously arrange festive decorations, including candy canes and towering nutcrackers. “They end up looking pretty sweet when they start to get lit up,” Bruggeman shared, highlighting the effort that goes into creating this magical atmosphere.
The display has rapidly evolved from a personal vision into a community tradition, featuring an impressive 59 sponsored displays spread across three parks. Bruggeman recalls the inspiration behind the project, saying, “One of the things I talked to my students about was having big hairy, audacious visions. And my big vision was to light the suspension bridge.” Mission accomplished, as the lights now span from the suspension bridge to the iconic world-record Pelican Pete.
