A young boy from Michigan, Kaden Stevenson, is raising awareness about the dangers of the flu after experiencing life-altering complications from the virus. Three years ago, a severe case of influenza led to a life-threatening bloodstream infection, resulting in the amputation of both of Kaden’s legs at the age of seven.
Now, Kaden is using his experience to help others understand the importance of flu vaccination. With the support of the advocacy group Families Fighting Flu, his journey has been transformed into a comic book titled “Kaden Blaze Fights Flu Bug.” This publication features Kaden’s superhero alter ego, Kaden Blaze, whose mission is to combat the flu and promote awareness surrounding the virus.

Michele Slafkosky, Executive Director of Families Fighting Flu, emphasizes the organization’s commitment to educating the public about influenza. She stated, “Families Fighting Flu’s mission is to improve awareness and education to help support getting people vaccinated and bringing awareness to how serious the flu can be.”
As flu activity begins to rise across the United States, particularly among children and young adults, the need for flu vaccination becomes increasingly urgent. Kaden’s parents, Michele and Ryan Stevenson, are hopeful that their son’s comic book will not only encourage people to get their flu shots but also spread a message of resilience and hope. “We want to show that even after something devastating, you can still make a difference,” said Michele Stevenson.
