Urgent: Auditions for “Annie” at MAC Set for December 13

URGENT UPDATE: Auditions for the beloved musical “Annie” are scheduled for December 13, 2023, at Mineral Area College (MAC), marking an exciting opportunity for aspiring young performers. This iconic production will take place at the MAC Tech building, with auditions beginning at 10 a.m. for actors aged 14 and under and at 3 p.m. for those 15 and older.

The excitement surrounding this production is palpable, as the story of “Annie”—which originated from a poem in 1885—continues to resonate with audiences today. Callbacks are set for December 14 at 6 p.m. at MAC, ensuring that talented individuals have the chance to showcase their skills.

Those interested in auditioning should be ready to prepare a 60- to 90-second song and provide their own accompaniment track on a Bluetooth-compatible device. Note that acapella auditions will not be permitted, and video submissions will not be accepted. As part of the audition process, performers will receive an audition preparation bundle via email, which includes character monologues and choreography videos.

Roles available include the titular character Annie, along with Warbucks, Grace Farrell, Miss Hannigan, and several ensemble members. Rehearsals are scheduled to take place on weekdays from January 5 to February 25, 2024, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The performances are set for February 26-28 at 7 p.m. and on March 1 at 3 p.m.

Director Kaity Conaway, a teacher in Farmington, expressed her enthusiasm for this project, stating, “I’m super excited to get to direct Annie because it’s one of the first movie musicals I remember watching as a kid.” Conaway is particularly looking forward to the choreography, adding, “Annie has so many fun opportunities for choreography, both dance and just organized movement.”

Even before auditions commence, Conaway has been impressed by the choreography ideas developed by her team, including choreographers Janna Hagerty and London Miscisin. This production represents Conaway’s first directing role outside the Farmington School District, and she is eager to explore new experiences in this different theatrical setting.

This is a unique opportunity for performers in the region, and with auditions just days away, the urgency to prepare is clear. Interested candidates should ensure they come dressed in appropriate dance attire and are fully prepared to perform both dance routines and monologues.
