Uber Driver Acquitted of Groping, Found Guilty of Harassment

URGENT UPDATE: A Montgomery County jury has just acquitted Robert Travers Corcoran, a 62-year-old Uber driver, of indecent assault charges but found him guilty of harassment in a case involving a female passenger. This decision comes after a tense two-day trial concerning an incident that occurred on February 10, 2025, in Whitpain Township.

The jury deliberated for approximately 90 minutes before reaching their verdict. While they dismissed the more serious charge of indecent assault, which could have resulted in a prison sentence of up to two years, they convicted Corcoran on a lesser harassment charge. This conviction carries a maximum possible sentence of six months to one year in jail, with potential for probation.

Assistant District Attorney Margot Weitz expressed disappointment at the outcome but acknowledged the jury’s careful consideration of the case. “It’s obviously not the outcome that we were looking for,” Weitz stated.

The incident began early in the morning on February 10, when the victim, after leaving the Audubon Ale House, ordered an Uber around 1:38 a.m.. Corcoran dropped off the victim’s male friend at 2:02 a.m., and as the ride continued, the victim testified that Corcoran groped her breast while she was on a FaceTime call. She reported that after her call ended, Corcoran allegedly “took his left hand and placed it into victim’s shirt underneath her bra.”

In a shocking revelation, the victim claimed Corcoran made inappropriate comments throughout the ride, including saying, “I would die to see you naked.” After arriving at her residence at 2:22 a.m., Corcoran allegedly followed her and attempted to kiss her, leading to an alarming confrontation as she fled inside her home.

The victim later reported the incident to the police, who quickly connected the Uber vehicle’s license plate to Corcoran. The case has raised significant concerns about passenger safety in rideshare services.

Judge Wendy G. Rothstein has deferred sentencing pending a background investigation report on Corcoran, who remains free on bail for now.

This case not only highlights the risks passengers face in rideshare situations but also raises questions about accountability and protection for individuals using these services.

As the legal process continues, the victim’s experience serves as a critical reminder of the importance of safety and communication during rideshare trips. Authorities are urging anyone who has experienced similar incidents to report them immediately to ensure justice is served.
