Denver Betterment Committee Celebrates 25 Years of Community Impact

BREAKING: The Denver Betterment Committee is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, marking a significant milestone in its mission to enhance the beauty and vibrancy of the Denver community. Founded in 2000, the committee has been instrumental in organizing events and beautifying the streets of Denver, Colorado, and their efforts have never been more vital than they are today.

URGENT UPDATE: Currently, the committee has 14 active members, including longtime member Caryl Tjaden, who joined in 2003. “Our purpose is to give the streets of Denver a more appealing look to residents and visitors,” Tjaden stated. This commitment to beautification is evident through various projects, such as the introduction of 24 ground planters adorned with flowers, replacing the earlier hanging baskets that became difficult to maintain.

In addition to the planters, the committee has installed two benches at local hotspots—the drugstore and AllyKatz restaurant—as memorial gifts. Tjaden emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses by ensuring that these benches were sourced from Kay Park Recreation in Janesville.

The committee’s initiatives extend beyond planting flowers and installing benches. They have provided picnic tables, children’s digger backhoes, and even Cyclone “cup displays” at the Sports Complex. Bicycle racks, glider swings, and seasonal decorations like cornstalks and sunflowers contribute to the community’s festive atmosphere.

A particularly poignant project involved planting a tree in memory of Tjaden’s late husband, who dedicated 26 years to teaching at the local high school. This living tribute stands proudly across from their home, a testament to his legacy and love for the community.

One of the most anticipated events, the annual “Old Fashioned Christmas,” has grown immensely since its inception in 2003. Last year, the event attracted over 500 votes for the best-decorated tree and table, showcasing the community’s enthusiastic participation. Tjaden recalled the overwhelming response, stating, “It’s been fun to see how it has evolved over the years,” as they prepare for another festive season.

Funding for these initiatives has come from generous donations and grants, allowing the committee to continuously enhance the community. Tjaden noted how contributions have enabled them to purchase string lights in memory of loved ones, beautifully illuminating the evergreen trees across from City Hall.

As the Denver Betterment Committee celebrates this landmark year, their impact is felt throughout the community, fostering a sense of pride and togetherness. “We appreciate every compliment we receive, especially about the flowers,” Tjaden expressed, highlighting the emotional connection the committee has cultivated within Denver.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Denver Betterment Committee invites all community members to join in their ongoing efforts. With new projects on the horizon and events like the “Old Fashioned Christmas” approaching, there’s never been a better time to get involved. Keep an eye out for updates and opportunities to participate in beautifying Denver, ensuring it remains a welcoming and vibrant place for all.

Stay tuned for more developments as the committee continues to enhance the beauty of Denver, making it a cherished hometown for residents and visitors alike.
