John J. Waterworth Sr., Beloved Community Leader, Passes Away at 80

URGENT UPDATE: The community of Dracut is mourning the loss of John J. Waterworth Sr., who passed away on December 9, 2025, at the age of 80. Surrounded by his loving family at The High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, Waterworth’s legacy as a dedicated family man and community leader will be profoundly missed.

Born on July 31, 1945, in Lowell, Waterworth served honorably in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He dedicated nearly 48 years of his professional life as an Engineer at The MITRE Corporation in Bedford, retiring in 2013.

Waterworth was a cherished member of St. Monica Parish in Methuen, where he actively participated as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. His commitment extended beyond the church; he was involved with the Knights of Columbus Council 14725 and volunteered at Lowell General Hospital, embodying the spirit of service to others.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visiting hours on Tuesday, December 16th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Edgar J. Racicot Inc. Funeral Home located at 1400 Broadway Rd., Dracut. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 17th, at 10:30 AM at St. Monica Church in Methuen, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery.

Waterworth leaves behind a loving partner, Cookie Maggio, three sons—John J. Waterworth Jr., Scott Waterworth, and Brian Waterworth—and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Claire, and two children, Amy and Kevin, along with his brother, Thomas Waterworth Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Monica’s Parish, located at 212 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA 01844.
