Nonprofit to Pay Off Mortgage for Fallen Burnsville Firefighter

A nonprofit organization will pay off the mortgage on the home of Adam Finseth, a firefighter and paramedic from the Burnsville Fire Department who died in the line of duty. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, based in New York, will fulfill this commitment through its Fallen First Responder Home Program as part of its 2025 Season of Hope initiative.

Finseth, age 40, was recognized for his bravery during a tragic incident on February 18, 2024. On that day, he responded to a domestic violence call, even though it was scheduled to be his day off. Finseth, one of only two SWAT medics in his department, acted decisively to assist in a standoff situation where seven children were present, along with the suspect’s girlfriend.

BJ Jungmann, the Fire Chief of Burnsville, praised Finseth for his “commitment and unwavering dedication,” highlighting his willingness to respond to the crisis in the middle of the night. Tragically, during the standoff, the suspect opened fire on responding officers without warning. While Finseth attempted to provide medical aid to an injured officer, he was also shot by the assailant. The gunman subsequently took his own life, but fortunately, the children and the girlfriend were unharmed.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established in memory of the first responders who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The organization aims to support the families of fallen heroes like Finseth, ensuring that they receive the necessary financial assistance during difficult times.

Finseth’s sacrifice is a reminder of the risks faced by emergency responders daily. The payment of the mortgage will provide some relief to the Finseth family, allowing them to focus on healing and honoring his legacy. The Foundation’s initiative reflects a broader commitment to support families of first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities, helping them navigate the challenges that arise after such devastating losses.

In addition to financial assistance, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation offers various programs to support first responders and their families, further illustrating their dedication to those who serve. As the Finseth family processes their loss, they can take comfort in knowing that their community stands behind them, both emotionally and materially.
