UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has announced it will pay off the mortgage for the family of fallen Burnsville firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. This crucial support comes through the Fallen First Responder Home Program as part of the 2025 Season of Hope initiative, marking a significant moment for the Finseth family.
On February 18, 2024, Finseth, aged 40, made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a domestic violence call in Burnsville, Minnesota. He, along with Burnsville police officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, was ambushed during a standoff that endangered seven children and a woman. Despite it being his day off, Finseth did not hesitate to answer the call, showcasing his unwavering commitment to public safety.
Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann highlighted Finseth’s bravery, stating, “He showed his commitment and unwavering dedication when he responded … in the middle of the night because seven children were at risk.” Tragically, as Finseth attempted to provide medical assistance to an injured officer, the gunman opened fire, fatally wounding him. The perpetrator subsequently took his own life, but thankfully, the children and the woman were unharmed.
The award-winning Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the heroism displayed during the September 11 attacks, aims to ease the burden on families of fallen heroes like Finseth. Their mission is to ensure that these families can focus on healing without the weight of financial obligations.
The announcement of the mortgage payoff is a beacon of hope for the Finseth family during this incredibly challenging time. It underscores the community’s support and the sacrifices made by first responders every day.
