Trump Ally Yehuda Kaploun Named US Envoy to Combat Antisemitism

UPDATE: The US Senate has confirmed Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun as the new special envoy for combating antisemitism. This significant appointment comes just days after a devastating antisemitic attack during a Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, where gunmen killed 15 individuals, including two Chabad rabbis, Eli Schlanger and Yaakov Levitan.

Kaploun, a businessman and Chabad rabbi, will replace historian Deborah Lipstadt. His new role carries ambassador-level status and oversees an annual budget that has been increased to $2 million to address the alarming rise in antisemitism globally.

The appointment is being hailed as a critical response to the ongoing surge of antisemitic sentiments, with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) emphasizing the urgent need for coordinated international action. Their recent Global 100 survey indicates that approximately 46 percent of adults worldwide—around 2.2 billion people—harbor elevated levels of antisemitic views, a troubling increase from 1.1 billion just a decade ago.

Kaploun expressed that his new position is “a game changer,” stating, “The president is sending a very strong message … I am the president’s representative, and I have kosher food, and embassies will have kosher food.” His commitment to addressing antisemitism comes at a crucial time, as global incidents continue to rise.

Israeli officials welcomed Kaploun’s appointment. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stated, “We appreciate the Trump administration’s strong commitment to combat antisemitism. This joint fight is more important now than ever.” Amichai Chikli, Israel’s diaspora affairs minister, described Kaploun as the “right person” for this vital role, praising his creativity and moral integrity.

Former President Donald Trump congratulated Kaploun on Truth Social, calling him a “staunch advocate for the Jewish Faith.” He emphasized the importance of having a representative dedicated to promoting peace amid rising antisemitism.

During his confirmation process, Kaploun prioritized education about the Holocaust as a key strategy for combating antisemitism. He addressed concerns from Democratic senators regarding the administration’s stance on right-wing extremism, asserting that “antisemitism is anti-American,” and highlighting a commitment to uphold religious liberty and justice.

Kaploun’s vision includes shifting the conversation to “pro-semitism” through education, aiming to reduce antisemitic rhetoric worldwide. “We need to educate, educate, educate,” he stated, urging collaboration in this essential mission.

As antisemitism continues to threaten communities globally, Kaploun’s leadership represents a pivotal step in the fight against hatred and intolerance. The international community is watching closely as he embarks on this critical mission to foster understanding and respect for all.
