Harmony Co-op Raises $2,200 for Local Charities in Urgent Event

URGENT UPDATE: Harmony Food Co-op has just confirmed a successful fundraising event that raised $2,200 for vital local organizations, MMIW 218 and Hope House Bemidji. The annual Buy Local – Give Local event took place on November 28 and showcased the community’s commitment to supporting critical initiatives in the area.

Thanks to the strong support from local shoppers, each organization received $1,100 to continue their important work. MMIW 218, founded by indigenous women from the Bemichigaamag region, is dedicated to addressing the alarming rates of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives. Their efforts focus on advocacy, education, and direct support for families affected by this ongoing crisis.

“Because of YOUR support, we were able to donate this significant amount to help them continue the incredible work they do right here in Bemidji,” a Harmony Co-op release stated.

Hope House plays a crucial role in the community by offering steady support for individuals living with serious mental illness. They connect people to essential services, social events, and daily care, helping to foster stability and community engagement.

“Thank you for showing up, shopping local, and making a difference,” the release emphasized. “Together, we’re building a stronger community.”

This event highlights the power of local action and the community’s dedication to supporting its most vulnerable members. With the ongoing challenges faced by many, initiatives like these remind us of the importance of local support and engagement.

The success of the Buy Local – Give Local event underscores not only the generosity of the Bemidji community but also the pressing need for continued advocacy and support for Indigenous issues and mental health services. As the need grows, so does the community’s response, showing that when we come together, we can make a significant impact.

As we move forward, community members are encouraged to stay involved and support these organizations through their ongoing efforts. Future events and initiatives will be crucial in ensuring that the work of MMIW 218 and Hope House continues to thrive.
