Lindsey Vonn Secures 142nd Podium with Bronze in Val d’Isere

UPDATE: Lindsey Vonn has just clinched her 142nd career podium by winning a bronze medal in the World Cup super-G event in Val d’Isere, France, on Sunday, December 21, 2025. This remarkable achievement comes after a thrilling race where Italy’s Sofia Goggia took home her first victory of the season, finishing in 1 minute, 20.24 seconds.

Goggia’s stellar performance included the fastest fourth sector, allowing her to navigate all 41 gates and overcome a challenging weekend after a disappointing performance the day before. “Yesterday was really an emotional day for me. I was really angry; I was really disappointed with myself,” she shared in the mixed zone. “I felt really pain inside of my soul, and I think the pain I felt yesterday was the gasoline I put on my race today,” she added, reflecting on her comeback.

New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, who stunned the competition in the season’s first super-G in St. Moritz, finished in second place, narrowly missing the win. Robinson, the current leader in the GS and super-G cup standings, expressed her frustration with the windy conditions but remained satisfied with her performance, stating, “I’m happy that I was still able to stay in touch on that kind of course where I’m not always the best.”

Vonn, who clocked in at 1:20.6, was only 0.36 seconds off the winning time. She started strong but lost time after brushing against a gate coming off Le Telephone jump. “I didn’t quite have enough direction on the first jump. I thought I was fine, but I think it cost me some time. After that, I skied well,” Vonn explained.

The 41-year-old skiing legend has had a commendable run lately, with her results in the last six races reading: 2-1-2-4-3-3. “All in all, I’m not disappointed in my skiing… I’m happy with it,” she concluded, emphasizing the challenge of consistently reaching the podium.

American teammate Keely Cashman finished in 11th place, just 0.24 seconds off the podium, while others like Tricia Mangan and Mary Bocock also competed, with Mangan scoring World Cup points in 24th place. The women’s World Cup circuit now heads to Semmering for two technical races on December 27-28.

With Vonn’s latest podium finish, fans are reminded of her enduring legacy in alpine skiing as she prepares for upcoming races in January, including downhill and super-G events in Zauchensee on January 10 and 11. Don’t miss the excitement as the season unfolds!
