Rocky River’s Dominant Victory Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Rocky River’s girls basketball team achieved a commanding victory over Cleveland Heights on December 12, 2025, winning 58-32 and marking their seventh consecutive win. After starting the season with two losses, the Pirates have since rebounded impressively, showcasing their skills and teamwork in each game.

The Pirates’ performance was characterized by their strong offensive and defensive strategies. Coach Jamey Pfahl praised his team’s efficiency, stating, “We ran the way that we normally would. Our offensive and defensive rebounding is dominant.” The height advantage played a crucial role, with Rocky River’s tallest player, Elizabeth Lang, standing at 6 feet. She secured an impressive 16 rebounds and scored 13 points, achieving a double-double.

Rocky River’s defense was particularly formidable, limiting Cleveland Heights to just 2 points in the first quarter. This defensive effort set the tone for the game, as the Pirates quickly established a commanding lead of 21-2. The Pirates ended the first half with a substantial advantage, leading 34-12 at the break.

Lang’s contributions were complemented by her teammates, particularly Nora Bruder, who excelled with her shooting. Bruder scored five 3-pointers and emphasized the importance of fast-paced transitions. “(Cleveland Heights) was not that great at getting back quickly. In our game, we played at a super-fast pace,” she noted. Bruder is on the verge of breaking Rocky River’s all-time 3-point shooting record, needing only five more to tie the current record holder, Nicole Popovich.

The Pirates maintained their momentum throughout the game, with a third-quarter run that initiated a running clock. By the end of the third quarter, Rocky River had built a commanding lead of 51-17.

In addition to Lang and Bruder, point guard Olivia Dewey played a pivotal role in the team’s success, contributing four points and six assists. Coach Pfahl highlighted the unselfish play among his top three players, stating, “This is not just one person. We all play really well together.”

Claudia Roche, another key player, added five points and three assists, demonstrating the depth of the Pirates’ roster. Following this victory, Rocky River will face Olentangy Berlin on December 28, while Cleveland Heights, now at a record of 5-5, will play against Massillon Jackson on December 29.

Rocky River’s impressive performance reflects their resilience and teamwork, positioning them well as they continue their season.
