Thief’s Bold Bicycle Heist Foiled by Broken Truck in SLO

UPDATE: A brazen theft attempt at Cambria Bike Outfitters in San Luis Obispo was thwarted early this morning when the thief’s getaway vehicle broke down. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on October 21, 2023, after the suspect crashed a stolen truck into the bicycle shop.

According to local authorities, the thief had stolen the truck from Santa Maria just hours before the attempted burglary. After backing the vehicle through a window, the suspect was unable to drive away due to the truck’s damaged condition. In a twist of fate, an ambulance passed by, drawing attention to the scene.

In a desperate move, the thief unloaded one bicycle from the truck bed and fled on foot, leaving the other items behind. Officers later discovered the abandoned bicycle several blocks away.
