Walton County Launches $42 Million “The Grove” Park with Celebration

Walton County has officially opened “The Grove” Park, a new recreation and entertainment destination valued at $42 million. The grand opening took place on December 22, 2023, with local officials and community members celebrating the occasion through a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony. Key figures in attendance included Walton County Board of Commissioners Chairman David Thompson, Walnut Grove Mayor Stephanie Moncrief, and Walton County Parks and Recreation Director Jody Johnson.

Spanning 124 acres, the first phase of The Grove features a wide array of amenities designed to enhance community life. Among the highlights are a 5,000-person amphitheater, a premier softball complex equipped with five synthetic-turf fields, a versatile community center, and a secure playground for children. Scenic walking trails meander through the park, offering a tranquil space for visitors to enjoy nature.

At the ceremony, Chairman Thompson expressed his enthusiasm for the park, stating, “This park is a testament to what we can achieve when we invest in our future.” He emphasized its importance for the county’s youth, showcasing a commitment to providing recreational opportunities.

The centerpiece of The Grove is a state-of-the-art amphitheater designed to host major concerts, festivals, and community theater productions. The facility is complemented by modern concession stands, restrooms, and shaded seating, solidifying its role as a hub for entertainment. Adjacent to the amphitheater, the new community center provides activity rooms, meeting spaces, and classrooms, enhancing the park’s capacity for indoor recreation and community programs.

Mayor Moncrief praised the project’s execution, stating, “The county did an amazing job. It is a beautiful addition to our home.” She conveyed her pride in Walnut Grove’s role as the location for such a significant facility, indicating the community’s support and excitement for the new park.

Funding for The Grove was secured without incurring debt for property owners, thanks to the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). This approach highlights the community’s commitment to shared financial responsibility in improving local amenities.

With its diverse offerings and strategic location, The Grove Park is poised to become a vital asset to Walton County, fostering community engagement and enhancing quality of life for residents.
