SGMC Health Appoints New Chief Residents for Internal Medicine

SGMC Health has announced the appointment of Ornob Rahman, MD, and Samuel Edusa, MD as chief residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, effective March 2026. This selection was made by their peers and approved by faculty and staff, recognizing their outstanding leadership and commitment to clinical excellence.

The role of chief resident is a prestigious position within medical education, allowing physicians to enhance their clinical, teaching, and administrative skills. Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa will act as key intermediaries between residents and faculty, manage educational conferences, coordinate schedules, supervise trainees, and promote resident well-being. Their responsibilities will also include overseeing Transitional Year residents, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Dr. Rahman, who holds a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts, brings a solid foundation in patient-centered care and academic leadership. Meanwhile, Dr. Edusa graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School, where he gained recognition for his clinical skills and compassionate approach to mentorship.

Greg Beale, MD, program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, expressed confidence in the new chief residents, stating, “Dr. Rahman and Dr. Edusa represent the future of medicine. Their dedication to education and patient care will not only strengthen our residency program but also inspire the next generation of physicians.”

SGMC Health’s Medical Education program is experiencing significant growth. In addition to the Internal Medicine program, the health system offers a one-year Transitional Year residency program, which provides essential clinical experience for physicians entering various specialties.

Looking forward, SGMC Health plans to launch a Family Medicine residency program in summer 2026, further enhancing its commitment to improving healthcare access and quality in the region. Additionally, SGMC Health serves as a clinical campus for Mercer University School of Medicine, offering third- and fourth-year medical students hands-on training and immersive clinical experiences that prepare them for successful medical careers.
