Hugh Jackman has received a remarkable gift from music legend Neil Diamond: a signed acoustic guitar. The surprise arrived over the weekend, further solidifying Jackman’s growing friendship with the iconic “Sweet Caroline” singer.
Currently, Jackman stars in the musical drama Song Sung Blue, where he plays Mike “Lightning” Sardina, the lead singer of a tribute band called Thunder & Lightning. The film, released on December 25, 2023, is inspired by the true story of a Milwaukee-based Diamond tribute band.
In a video shared on social media, Jackman is visibly stunned upon unboxing an instrument case to reveal the guitar. He stares at the camera in disbelief, exclaiming, “oh… my…” as he carefully examines the instrument. The signature reads: “Hugh, Keep rocking! Your friend, Neil Diamond.” Jackman’s reaction captures his astonishment, as he gently retrieves the guitar and affectionately hugs it, expressing his gratitude with a heartfelt, “thank you Neil.”
In his post, Jackman described the gift as “one of the most awesome gifts I’ve ever received and will cherish forever.” The video also features a shot of the 84-year-old Diamond giving a thumbs-up while holding the guitar. Diamond, who announced his retirement from touring in 2018 due to a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis, continues to inspire fans and artists alike.
Jackman and Diamond’s friendship blossomed after a memorable karaoke sleepover at Diamond’s home. This gathering followed Jackman’s appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where he mentioned a touching phone call from Diamond after the singer viewed Song Sung Blue.
During the call, Diamond expressed his admiration for the film, prompting Jackman to suggest a casual meeting over coffee. Initially, communication was delayed, with Diamond’s wife, Katie, humorously explaining their whereabouts in Colorado. Undeterred, Jackman expressed his desire to visit, which led to a dinner and karaoke session that solidified their bond.
Jackman’s journey in the entertainment industry continues to be marked by heartfelt moments, and the connection with Neil Diamond stands out as a highlight. The unexpected gift serves as a testament to the camaraderie and mutual respect between the two artists, resonating with fans and further enhancing Jackman’s already illustrious career.
