BREAKING: The community mourns the loss of Robert Eugene Eko, who passed away at the age of 97 on December 30, 2025. Known for his vibrant spirit and dedication to hard work, Eko’s legacy spans decades in the Centralia area and beyond.
Born on September 6, 1928, in Rochester, Washington, Robert grew up surrounded by love and tradition, spending summers on his grandparents’ farm in Lincoln Creek Valley. He served in the U.S. Army before embarking on a remarkable journey that included a deep commitment to his family and community.
In 1959, Robert married the love of his life, Peggy Lynette, and together they built a home on 20 acres atop Davis Hill in Centralia. They created a life filled with love, gardening, and raising quarter horses, embodying the spirit of rural America.
Robert’s professional life was equally impressive. He was a proud member of the Sheriff’s Posse and worked tirelessly in the logging industry as a high climber, where he scaled towering trees well into his later years. His resilience was legendary, still performing high climbs at age 86 and weed-eating sidehills at 95.
Throughout his life, Robert maintained his independence, living with his devoted dog, Tucker, until his passing. He is survived by his brother, Johnny (Kathy), his children, Kimberly (Mike), Kristy (Chris), and Brian (Leanne), and his cherished grandchildren, Jake and Emma.
This news resonates deeply within the community, as Robert Eko was not just a resident but a beloved figure whose presence will be sorely missed. His dedication to hard work and family values continues to inspire those who knew him.
As tributes pour in, the community reflects on the indelible mark Robert left on their lives.
