Broadbent & Associates, Inc. Appoints Matthew Johns as Project Historian

Broadbent & Associates, Inc. (Broadbent), a leading environmental consulting firm, has appointed Matthew Johns as its new project historian. With over 35 years of experience in providing environmental, engineering, and water resource services, Broadbent continues to strengthen its cultural resources team, this time with a focus on enhancing its historical research capabilities.

Based in Las Vegas, Johns will undertake various responsibilities that include conducting both primary and secondary research, preparing detailed historical contexts, assisting with fieldwork, and contributing to publications and community outreach initiatives. His expertise is expected to significantly benefit Broadbent’s projects, particularly those that require a deep understanding of local history.

Johns holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and brings professional experience from notable organizations such as Kautz Environmental Consultants, the Neon Museum, and the Las Vegas Justice Courthouse. He is also an active member of the National Council on Public History and contributes his time to the Nevada Preservation Foundation, as well as volunteering for local initiatives like Lake Mead clean-up efforts.

Commitment to Community and Historical Preservation

Margo Memmott, cultural resources division manager and associate archaeologist at Broadbent, expressed her enthusiasm for Johns’ addition to the team. “Matthew is an excellent addition to our cultural resources team in Las Vegas. He is a personable and thoughtful historian who has been trained in UNLV’s Public History program,” Memmott stated. “While he is already putting his skills to work researching the background history of the Transcontinental Railroad in Northern Nevada and the World War II history of Boulder City, I am most impressed with his attitude. I love his commitment to supporting our clients in their efforts to honor and preserve the history of the communities we serve.”

In his new role, Johns will work closely with Broadbent’s cultural resources professionals across various locations, including Reno, Denver, and Phoenix. His presence is anticipated to enhance the firm’s capabilities in delivering comprehensive services related to architectural history, anthropology, archaeology, and historic preservation.

The appointment of Matthew Johns is a strategic move for Broadbent & Associates, Inc. as it seeks to expand its expertise in cultural resources and better serve its clients.
