Community Extravaganza Connects Residents with Local Resources

A Community Extravaganza aimed at connecting Putnam County residents with essential services will take place on March 23, 2024. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, located at 2400 St. Johns Ave. in Palatka. Organizers expect representatives from more than 30 organizations to attend, providing valuable resources to the community.

Father Robert Massey, who serves as the pastor of St. John the Divine Charismatic Episcopal Church and is instrumental in organizing the event, emphasized the importance of this gathering. The goal is to help residents, including children, veterans, and the elderly, access a wide array of services. “I cannot tell you what the benefits are that people will get, but I know if they come, they’ll get something out of it,” Massey stated.

Among the organizations participating are the Putnam County School District’s pre-K program coordinator, veterans from the American Legion Bert Hodge Post 45 Auxiliary, and the Arc of Putnam County. Massey explained that he does not claim sole credit for the extravaganza, attributing its success to a higher purpose. “This is God’s mission, that’s important to remember,” he said. He aims to foster a sense of security within the community by providing assistance in various forms, including physical, mental, and spiritual support.

The event promises a family-friendly atmosphere, featuring games for children, live music, and complimentary hot dogs. Food vendors will also be present for those wishing to purchase additional snacks or meals. Debbie Brooks, the secretary for Grace Fellowship, echoed the sentiment of community outreach, noting the importance of informing residents about the resources available to them. She shared her own experience from last year’s event, stating, “I didn’t realize until I met some of them, and it was an eye-opener for me.”

As preparations continue, Massey noted that more organizations are showing interest in participating. He expressed excitement about the upcoming event, highlighting its focus on community engagement and support. “I’m all about success,” he remarked. “When I was a teacher, that was my No. 1 message to students, ‘be successful.’ But the only way to be successful is to know your possibilities and then take advantage of them.”

With the promise of valuable information and resources, the Community Extravaganza aims to empower residents of Putnam County. The event serves as a reminder that local organizations are committed to helping individuals and families lead happier, more fulfilling lives.
