John Joseph Matwijcow III, aged 59, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in The Villages, Florida. His life journey began on January 16, 1966, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he grew up in South Plainfield. Throughout his life, he also resided in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and later in Nazareth and Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. In January 2025, he made the move to Florida, seeking new opportunities and community connections.
John completed his education at the McCauley School, an institution dedicated to supporting students with special needs. He actively participated in the Special Olympics, showcasing his enthusiasm and determination. His involvement extended to THE ARC, where he engaged in meaningful daily activities, reflecting his pride in being part of the community.
Known for his gentle spirit, John brought joy to those around him. He had a deep passion for music, particularly the works of Elvis Presley, and enjoyed watching his favorite television game shows and westerns. John also found joy in creating art and was fond of Italian cuisine, with a particular affection for McDonald’s, which always brought a smile to his face.
John is survived by his loving sisters, Kimberly Ann Matwijcow Kopke and Jessica Ann Matwijcow Clark, who served as his primary caregiver and cherished him deeply. He is lovingly remembered by his extended family, including David, Christopher, Brenda, Adrian, Jasmine, Emily, Mark, Isabel, Jacob, Chelsea, and Vega (Jonathan). John was not just a brother and uncle; he was a beloved family member who will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
His passing is felt deeply within the community, where he touched many lives with his kindness and warmth.
