West Point Public Schools has recognized two outstanding educators for their exceptional contributions to the learning community. History and government teacher Sean Klaver has been named the division’s teacher of the year, while Megan Billet, an interventionist at West Point Elementary School, has received the title of division support staff member of the year.
The announcement was made in a news release detailing the achievements of both individuals. Klaver earned this prestigious award due to his ability to engage students in meaningful discussions and connect classroom concepts to real-world civics. His commitment to fostering critical thinking and relevant learning experiences has made a significant impact on his students.
Principal of West Point Middle/High School, Laurel Byrd, praised Klaver’s enthusiasm and depth of knowledge. She noted that his dynamic teaching style encourages students to participate in lively discussions, enhancing their understanding of the subject matter. “Mr. Klaver’s enthusiasm and depth of knowledge spill over in his classroom,” Byrd stated. “He engages students in relevant learning experiences and critical thinking about their world.”
In addition to Klaver’s recognition, Billet was honored for her vital role in supporting second- and third-grade students, including those with disabilities. Her hands-on approach and close collaboration with students and teachers have made a noteworthy difference in the academic support provided at West Point Elementary School.
Jennifer Goodwin, principal of West Point Elementary School, highlighted Billet’s qualities as an essential member of the educational team. “Mrs. Billet is the kind of person every school hopes to have on its team,” Goodwin said. “She brings kindness and patience to each day, always putting students first. Her willingness to jump in wherever she’s needed makes a difference for students, staff, and our entire school community.”
Superintendent Larry Frazier commended both educators for exemplifying the core values of West Point Public Schools, which include relationships, innovation, student-centered learning, and excellence. “Mr. Klaver and Ms. Billet represent the best of West Point Public Schools,” Frazier remarked. “Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to students help ensure our division continues moving in the right direction.”
