Melbra James Leo ‘Mel’ Orr, aged 28, passed away on February 12, 2026, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. Born on December 28, 1997, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mel was a beloved figure in his community, known for his warm personality and generous spirit.
Throughout his life, Mel was a dedicated employee at Rosewood Services, where he worked in the recycling center disassembling electronics. He found a strong sense of belonging among his colleagues and friends there, becoming a cherished member of the Rosewood Services family. His infectious enthusiasm and open-hearted nature allowed him to connect deeply with those around him.
Mel was widely recognized for his kindness and friendliness. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, turning strangers into friends with his genuine warmth. Music played an important role in his life; he would often immerse himself in his favorite tunes, allowing them to uplift his spirits.
Active in his community, Mel was a proud member of the Rosewood Miracle Workers Aktion Club. He eagerly participated in various community activities and service projects, demonstrating his commitment to giving back. Mel also cherished his time outdoors, particularly enjoying fishing and observing wildlife at Veterans Memorial Park.
In recent years, he became an ardent supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, passionately cheering for the team and celebrating their successes with friends and family. His enthusiasm for life and his unwavering loyalty to his friends and loved ones will be deeply missed.
Survivors include many dear friends and the staff at Rosewood Services, who regarded Mel as family. His joyful spirit will continue to resonate within the community that he cherished so much.
Cremation has already taken place, and a celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Rosewood Memorial Garden, located at 384 N. Washington Ave., Great Bend.
