Community Mourns Loss of Veteran Richard Dwayne Cobb, 77

Richard Dwayne Cobb, a cherished figure in the Kilgore community, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Longview, Texas. He was 77 years old. Cobb’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and a profound love for his family and community.

Born on February 25, 1949, in Kilgore, Texas, Mr. Cobb dedicated 24 years to the United States Air Force. His military career was distinguished by honor and resilience, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the nation. After his retirement, he continued to serve his community, actively participating in organizations such as the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans) and the Legion Hall in Kilgore, where he forged lasting relationships and positively impacted many lives.

Cobb was known for his deep affection for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Family members remember him for the warmth and happiness he shared, creating cherished memories that will endure. Outside of his family life, he had a passion for fishing and was an enthusiastic fan of rodeos, particularly enjoying bull riding. His support for the New Orleans Saints highlighted his spirited nature as a sports enthusiast.

Richard Dwayne Cobb is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Norma Jean Cobb, daughter Tomasene Elliott and her husband John, and son David “Andy” Cobb and his wife Stacie. He leaves behind grandchildren Tammy Hale and her husband Leon, Thomas Coleman, Tara Coleman, Elaine Cobb, and Kaitlyn Barnett with her husband Jerry. His legacy also includes a lineage of great-grandchildren: Jax Barnett, Emma Hale, Mason Hale, Elija Coleman, Rowan Coleman, and Addlynn Herndon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. His devoted dog, Trucker, was also a significant companion throughout his life.

Richard is preceded in death by his father Rueben T. Cobb, mother Letha L. Lala, stepfather Albert J. Hall, sister Flora Gene Hall, brother Raymond O. Cobbs, Sr., and sister-in-law Pearl Cobbs.

A Celebration of Life will take place on March 6, 2026, at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas, beginning at 14:00. Richard Dwayne Cobb will be remembered not only for his service to the country but also for the love and joy he imparted to family and friends throughout his life. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
