Warren Hinkle, a senior at Houston High School, made history by becoming the first individual to win a welding title in the district’s program. His achievement came during the Skills USA district competition held last week, where he outperformed other competitors to secure a spot at the state level.
Hinkle’s victory marks a significant milestone for the school’s welding program, which has been under the guidance of instructor Adam Vandiver. The success of the program has been highlighted by Hinkle’s individual accomplishment and the performance of the HHS fabrication team.
In addition to Hinkle’s achievement, the HHS fabrication team secured second place at the district competition, allowing them to advance to the state competition for the fourth consecutive year. The team consists of Eli Newsome, Blake Talbott, and Austin Elliott, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional skills in welding.
The commitment and dedication of both Hinkle and the fabrication team reflect the growing strength of the welding program at Houston High School. As they prepare for the upcoming state competition in April 2024, the team aims to build on their previous successes and showcase their talents on a larger stage.
This remarkable achievement not only highlights individual talent but also underscores the importance of vocational education in shaping future careers. The recognition of Hinkle’s welding skills serves as an inspiration for other students in the program and emphasizes the valuable opportunities that such competitions provide.
With support from instructors and the community, Houston High School’s welding program continues to thrive, preparing students for successful careers in a skilled trade that is essential to various industries. As Hinkle and his teammates gear up for the state competition, they carry with them the pride of their school’s legacy and the hope of achieving even greater success.
