Wyomissing Police Respond to DUI Crash and Multiple Incidents

Wyomissing police reported a series of incidents on September 26, 2023, involving traffic stops, a DUI arrest, and various emergency calls throughout the borough. The day began with a call shortly after 5:00 a.m. regarding a person described as possibly homeless walking near businesses on Berkshire Boulevard. Officers were dispatched, but the individual had left the area prior to their arrival.

Minutes later, police responded to a minor two-vehicle crash on the 100 block of 4th Street. The incident involved one vehicle allegedly colliding with another that was parked and unoccupied. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Around 11:30 a.m., police documented an inquiry related to a civil matter on Wellington Boulevard after an attorney requested a no-contact letter for specific individuals. Shortly after, officers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Crossing Drive and Spring Street due to concerns about window tint. During the stop, they discovered that the vehicle displayed an incorrect license plate. The driver was cited under Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Section 7124, and the license plate was seized.

Following this, at approximately 12:09 p.m., officers responded to a 911 hang-up call on Knitting Mills Way. Police made contact with local security personnel, who were unaware of any emergencies; the call was deemed an accidental dial.

In the afternoon, another traffic stop occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Berkshire Boulevard for an alleged failure to yield the right of way, resulting in a warning for the driver. Shortly thereafter, at 5:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle at Woodland Road and Papermill Road for failing to signal during a turn, also issuing a warning.

By 7:00 p.m., officers had transitioned to assisting the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office in serving an emergency protection-from-abuse order at a residence on High Road. This order was successfully served.

As the evening progressed, police stopped another vehicle around 7:49 p.m. near Woodland Road and Crossing Drive due to expired registration, leading to a citation for the owner and operator. At approximately 9:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to Route 422 for a reportable two-vehicle crash. One driver claimed they had moved to the left lane to avoid a reckless driver, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. Both parties reported involvement from a “phantom vehicle,” yet no injuries were noted.

Later that night, at 10:57 p.m., police responded to a report of a downed wire and a sparking utility pole on Thrush Road. The fire department handled the situation. Just before midnight, officers were alerted to another 911 hang-up call on State Hill Road, which was confirmed to be accidental.

The final incident of the night occurred just before midnight at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Reading Avenue, where police found a single-vehicle crash. Officers determined that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The individual was taken into custody and transported to central processing for a breath test, with charges anticipated.
