Montgomery Police Arrest Fourth Suspect in Mass Shooting Today

UPDATE: Montgomery police have just announced the arrest of a fourth suspect in the devastating mass shooting that rocked downtown Montgomery, Alabama, on October 4, 2023. 21-year-old Kemontae Hood has been charged with one count of capital murder and multiple counts of assault, adding to the urgency surrounding this tragic event.
Hood was taken into custody today and is now booked at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. This follows the arrest of Dantavious McGhee, aged 19, who was apprehended on October 14 and faces the same serious charges. Additionally, a juvenile male was arrested earlier this month under similar counts, although authorities have not disclosed his identity.
In a further development, Javorick Whiting, also 19, was arrested yesterday on charges of attempted murder. He was taken into custody by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and is currently held at the same facility.
This mass shooting tragically claimed the lives of two individuals: 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris, who died at the scene, and 43-year-old Shalanda Williams, who succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. The incident occurred around 11:31 PM near the intersection of Bibb and Commerce streets, a bustling area in the heart of Montgomery’s downtown.
Of the twelve injured during the shooting, seven are under the age of 20, with the youngest victim being just 16 years old. While initially, five individuals were listed in life-threatening condition, police report that two have since improved, with their injuries now deemed non-life threatening.
