UPDATE: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have secured their third straight victory of the season, dominating the Hartford Wolfpack with a decisive 5-2 win on Friday night, October 20, 2023. Jumping out to an early lead, the Penguins are now 3-0 and show no signs of slowing down.
Home ice advantage was palpable as the Penguins charged ahead with a two-goal lead by the end of the first period. Atley Calvert was instrumental in the victory, scoring two goals, the first of which came just minutes into the game, putting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton up 2-0 after Rafaei Harvey-Pinard found the net with help from Chase Pietila and Ryan Graves.
The Penguins didn’t stop there. A power-play goal from Avery Hayes pushed the score to 3-0, providing a comfortable cushion. However, the Wolfpack fought back, scoring two consecutive goals to narrow the gap to 3-2 with just under 14 minutes left in the game.
Calvert responded decisively, netting his second goal of the night to extend the lead to 4-2 with nine minutes remaining. Tristan Broz sealed the deal with a final goal less than three minutes before the buzzer. In total, Sergei Murashov made an impressive 28 saves on 30 shots, showcasing solid performance in the Penguins’ goal.
Looking ahead, the Penguins will remain in Connecticut for a weekend matchup against Bridgeport, set to begin at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Fans can anticipate an exciting rivalry as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns to Mohegan Arena on Wednesday to face off against Lehigh Valley, followed by a challenging series against the Charlotte Checkers next weekend.
