Man Walking Dogs Attacked in Unprovoked Assault Outside Layton Gas Station
Layton Police Department is urgently searching for a suspect involved in a violent and unprovoked assault on a man walking his dogs outside a Chevron Gas Station at Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive. The incident unfolded during the evening hours on April 28, when the victim was unexpectedly confronted and attacked by an unknown man, sparking a dangerous physical altercation.
Lieutenant Clint Bobrowski confirmed that officers received a frantic 911 call from the victim, who sounded as if he was running and pleading for help. “The victim stated that while he was in the area walking his dogs, he was approached by an unknown male who was screaming and visibly upset,” Bobrowski said. Surveillance footage obtained by police shows a man in a green hoodie aggressively approaching and attempting to kick the victim’s dog before a fight broke out.
Violent Fight Leads to Weapon Theft and Suspect’s Escape
The assault escalated quickly when the suspect threw punches at the victim. During the struggle, the victim tried to defend himself and was reportedly forced to draw a knife. Police say the suspect disarmed him, stealing the knife before fleeing on foot towards the nearby Quail Cove Apartments.
“There’s a couple of aspects here,” Lt. Bobrowski explained. “We’re dealing with assault against both the victim and the dog, as well as theft of the knife during the fight.” Despite the danger posed by the stolen weapon and the sudden nature of the attack, officers stress that this appears to be an isolated incident and do not believe the suspect poses an ongoing threat to the public.
Community Reacts with Shock and Concern
Local resident Ko-Ko Kabwasa, who frequently walks dogs in the area, expressed disbelief over the attack. “It’s scary to see the world come to this,” Kabwasa said. “I walk my dog all hours and never had issues — and then suddenly a man attacks another’s dog for no reason.”
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man captured on surveillance video wearing a green hoodie to contact their tip line at 497-8300 and reference case L26-10572. Authorities warn residents not to approach the suspect if spotted and to report immediately.
Why This Matters Now
This violent assault highlights a rare but troubling episode of public aggression in Layton, disrupting a community that prides itself on safety and calm. Such unprovoked attacks against pedestrians and pets raise urgent questions about public safety and kennel dog walking security nationwide. As spring walks increase, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers present even in seemingly safe neighborhoods.
Layton Police continue the investigation and are prioritizing locating the suspect swiftly to prevent further harm. New developments are expected soon as the case unfolds.
“This seems to be an isolated event and there’s no cause for concern for general public safety,” said Lt. Bobrowski.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any information that may assist law enforcement in apprehending the violent suspect responsible for this shocking gas station attack.
