CARICOM Election Observers Confirm Peaceful and Orderly Polls in Antigua and Barbuda
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Election Observation Mission (CEOM) has reported a peaceful and well-administered general election in Antigua and Barbuda on April 30, 2026. The six-member observer team, deployed at the invitation of Antigua and Barbuda’s government, praised the strong security presence and smooth voting process throughout the election day.
The CEOM, led by Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett, deployed teams across 16 of the 17 constituencies, visiting 182 polling stations to monitor key moments including opening, voting, and ballot counting. Both leading party leaders, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and Lars Jamale Pringle of the United Progressive Party, cooperated in facilitating a peaceful election environment.

After voting closed, the teams witnessed the proper sealing and transportation of ballot boxes to counting stations. Ballots were counted openly and transparently in the presence of party agents and observers, following all established procedures. “Electors were able to exercise their franchise in a peaceful and orderly manner without significant incident,” the CEOM stated in its preliminary report.
