El Camino College Football Sets Rushing Records in Thrilling Win

BREAKING: El Camino College football team just achieved a record-setting night in a thrilling victory over Palomar College on October 14, 2023. The Warriors showcased an explosive performance, racking up a staggering 673 yards of total offense, including an incredible 469 rushing yards.
The game remained in doubt until the final minutes, as Palomar (1-6, 0-4) staged a fierce comeback from a 21-point deficit. With just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter, they narrowed El Camino’s lead to seven points, making the outcome uncertain.
Facing a critical third-and-two on their own 23-yard line, the Warriors (6-1, 4-0) turned to their star running back, Damonte Bias. Bias broke free for a stunning 62-yard run, propelling El Camino into scoring position. Shortly after, quarterback Andrew Maushardt tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Moore, extending the lead to 45-31 and sealing the victory.
“We just wanted to finish strong on that last drive,” Bias said. “When I got the ball, I knew I needed to make a play. We take each week as a new challenge. We are 1-0 this week.”
Bias delivered a remarkable performance, amassing 266 rushing yards on just 22 carries, breaking the previous single-game rushing record of 263 yards set in 1998 by Delvon Flowers. The team’s total of 469 rushing yards also shattered their former record of 343 yards established in 2021.
Moore was also pivotal in the game, contributing 184 rushing yards and scoring two touchdowns. El Camino’s offense started strong, scoring on their first two possessions. Maushardt connected with Cameron Brewer for an 11-yard touchdown just two minutes into the game, followed by a 23-yard field goal from kicker Christian Miranda, taking an early lead of 10-0.
Despite some setbacks, including two fumbles by Moore in the first half, El Camino maintained composure. After a 47-yard field goal by Palomar’s Carson Beard reduced the deficit to seven, Bias responded with a 21-yard run and later a 44-yard run, setting up another touchdown pass from Maushardt to Brandon Jones for a score of 17-3.
Palomar had a golden opportunity to cut into the lead but was thwarted by a strong goal-line stand from El Camino’s defense. Coach Gifford Lindheim praised the team’s resilience: “We were in a dogfight tonight against Palomar. That goal-line stand was huge.”
After halftime, Bias added a 57-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 24-3. However, Palomar responded decisively when Bubba Garcia returned the following kickoff for a 99-yard touchdown, making it 24-10. The back-and-forth continued as Palomar clawed back to close the gap, but El Camino held firm.
Moore’s late-game touchdown and Bias’s explosive runs were crucial in solidifying the victory, demonstrating the Warriors’ determination to finish strong.
As the season progresses, El Camino College looks to build on this momentum and remain at the top of their conference. Fans are eager to see how they will perform in the upcoming weeks as they strive for more records and victories.
