1,500 Join Urgent ‘No Kings’ Rally in Bemidji Against Authoritarianism

UPDATE: Around 1,500 participants rallied in Bemidji, Minnesota today, sending a powerful message against rising authoritarianism and demanding accountability from local representatives. The gathering at Paul Bunyan Park was part of the larger “No Kings Day of Action,” which mobilized an estimated 15,000 individuals across the 8th Congressional District.
As the rally unfolded, attendees of all backgrounds united under a shared commitment to democratic values—freedom, dignity, and justice. Organizers from Indivisible Bemidji confirmed that similar events occurred in cities including Brainerd, Duluth, and Cloquet, with Brainerd witnessing a turnout of 2,500—the largest political event in the region in recent memory.
The enthusiasm was palpable as participants displayed signs, formed marching bands, and led chants, all while calling for transparency from Rep. Pete Stauber. The rally emphasized the need for representation that prioritizes the needs of people over political power.
“Standing up for democracy shouldn’t be controversial. It should be patriotic,” said Sherry Kloha of Indivisible Bemidji. Her remarks resonated with many, highlighting the emotional stakes involved in the ongoing fight for democratic integrity.
The “No Kings” message underscores a growing concern among constituents regarding the alignment of local officials with former President Donald Trump and extremist policies. Organizers are calling for a shift in representation that reflects the values of the community, rather than the interests of a select few.
With rallies like this becoming a common occurrence since January 2017, community members are rallying around the belief that refusing to accept corruption is an act of love for their country.
What’s next? As this movement gains momentum, more actions are expected in the coming weeks, with leaders urging constituents to remain engaged and vocal. The situation is evolving rapidly, and more updates will follow as activists continue to push for accountability and justice.
Stay tuned for further developments as the fight for democracy unfolds across Minnesota and beyond.
