UPDATE: The Chicago Fire surged into the next round of the MLS playoffs with a decisive 3-1 victory over Orlando City on October 25, 2023, at SeatGeek Stadium. This victory marks the Fire’s first playoff advancement since 2017 under new head coach Gregg Berhalter, the former U.S. men’s national team coach.

Hugo Cuypers delivered an electrifying performance, scoring two goals in the second half, while Brian Gutiérrez added another to solidify the Fire’s win. Just three minutes into the second half, Gutiérrez opened the scoring with a well-placed shot after expertly controlling a cross from Jonathan Dean. The Fire quickly doubled their lead when Cuypers capitalized on a misplay by Orlando’s goalkeeper, Pedro Gallese, redirecting a clearance attempt into the net in the 57th minute.

Cuypers wasn’t done yet; he struck again in the 68th minute with a precise finish from a pass by Philip Zinckernagel, pushing the score to 3-0. Orlando City managed a late consolation goal through Tyrese Spicer in the 89th minute, but it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome.

This victory is particularly significant for the Chicago Fire, who are set to face the Supporters’ Shield-winning Philadelphia Union in a best-of-three first-round playoff series. The Fire’s triumph comes as a relief after a challenging season for Orlando City, who have struggled with just one win in their last eight matches and are now eliminated from playoff contention.

Fans are buzzing about the Fire’s return to playoff form, igniting hope for a strong postseason run. As the team prepares for their upcoming match against Philadelphia, all eyes will be on how they can continue this momentum.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Chicago Fire’s playoff journey as they aim to make a deep run in this year’s MLS playoffs.
