Demolition of Camberley Town Centre Building Set to Begin Soon

Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) has confirmed the dates for the demolition of a prominent building in Camberley, Surrey. Starting in early November 2024, the demolition will focus on the High Street and London Road areas, including the former Allder’s building.
In recent weeks, preparatory work such as asbestos removal and gas pipe disconnection has been completed. The council anticipates that the overall demolition process will conclude by Spring 2026. Following the demolition, the site is planned for the construction of up to 550 new homes, contributing to the town’s redevelopment.
The plans to demolish the Allder’s building, along with adjacent properties numbered 125 to 137 on London Road (A30), were initially announced in May 2024. The confirmed timeline indicates that demolition of the buildings at 125–137 London Road and 10 and 12 High Street will commence first, with the Allder’s building, previously a department store, to follow early in the new year.
Significant Investment in Camberley’s Future
The redevelopment project has been supported by funding from the Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF2), which awarded nearly £1.5 million to Camberley in September 2024. This financial boost aims to facilitate the transformation of the town centre and increase housing availability.
As demolition progresses, residents and local businesses should expect heightened activity in the area. Heavy machinery will be in operation, with contractors from Collard Ltd scheduled to work from Monday to Saturday, between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays, and until 13:00 on Saturdays.
Councillor Kel Finan-Cooke, Portfolio Holder for Property and Economic Development at SHBC, expressed optimism about the project’s impact. He stated, “The London Road development site has reached a significant milestone with the commencement of these works. The active development of the site enables the next step of securing a housing developer.”
With the marketing process set to begin later this year, the council aims to attract a development partner who can deliver further regeneration and new homes to Camberley. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the town’s infrastructure and meet the growing demand for housing.
