The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair will remain closed on Sunday, November 1, due to heavy rainfall that has rendered the fairgrounds too wet for vehicle parking and ride operations. The decision follows two rounds of significant rain that began on Saturday, impacting the event’s schedule.
Fair officials are actively working to reschedule the High School Volunteer Awards Ceremony and the Lego Extravaganza, both of which were slated for Sunday afternoon. In addition, they are currently assessing the conditions of the fairgrounds to determine if the festival can safely reopen on Monday, November 2.
This year’s fair, which commenced on Thursday, October 29, is designed to run for a total of 11 days, concluding on November 2. Since its inception in 1965, the event has become a cherished tradition in the region, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The fair is organized entirely by volunteers, and all proceeds are directed toward scholarships and local community causes. Since 1987, the fair’s foundation has contributed over $5 million to various initiatives.
As the fair’s management continues to monitor weather conditions, attendees are urged to stay updated on potential changes to the schedule. The organization remains committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants once the weather permits.
