UPDATE: Marin County investigators have arrested a suspect in a significant fraud scheme involving dozens of stolen Apple products. The arrest of Aisuluu Mursalieva, 27, from Hayward, comes after a Kentfield resident reported unauthorized purchases on her credit card at the Apple Store in San Francisco.
The investigation initiated on August 27, 2023, when the victim alerted authorities about the fraudulent transaction. Detectives quickly obtained video footage showing the potential suspect collecting the merchandise. According to Lt. Brennan Collins of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, a detective from another agency recognized Mursalieva from similar footage linked to a different fraud case.
On Wednesday, authorities executed a search warrant at Mursalieva’s residence, where they discovered an alarming cache of evidence. Detectives found approximately 50 unopened Apple products, alongside 50 counterfeit ID cards, a laminator, and a color scanner. Additionally, various other unopened electronic devices of different brands were located.
“We are investigating where these electronics were purchased and are working to identify any additional victims of identity theft,” Collins stated. This alarming case raises concerns about the growing prevalence of fraud and identity theft, impacting innocent victims.
Mursalieva is currently booked into the Marin County Jail on fraud and theft charges. Her bail is set at $25,000, and she has been released pending further review by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office. As of now, Mursalieva could not be reached for comment.
This developing story highlights the urgent need for increased vigilance against fraud. Authorities encourage anyone who may have fallen victim to similar schemes to come forward. Investigators continue to piece together the full extent of this operation, making it crucial for the public to stay informed.
