Lauderdale County Hosts Urgent Unclaimed Property Event on Nov. 7

URGENT UPDATE: Lauderdale County residents may be sitting on unclaimed funds, and help is on the way! On Friday, November 7, 2025, from 2-6 p.m., the county is partnering with State Treasurer David McRae to host an unclaimed property event at the Lauderdale County Government Complex.

This event is a vital opportunity for residents to discover if they have any lost money waiting to be claimed. County and state officials will be available to assist individuals in identifying unclaimed funds and guiding them through the claims process.

According to the Treasurer’s office, unclaimed money arises when banks or businesses cannot locate the rightful owners. After a period of five years, these funds are transferred to the State Treasury, which is responsible for returning the money to its rightful owners.

Since taking office in 2020, Treasurer David McRae has made significant strides, successfully returning over $150 million to residents across the state. His office is dedicated to connecting individuals with their lost funds, and this event aims to further that mission.

Residents can also visit treasury.ms.gov to search for unclaimed money linked to their names and to find detailed information about the claims process, required documentation, and answers to frequently asked questions.
