Fitchburg State Falcons Celebrate Championship with Rings Today

UPDATE: Early this morning, the Fitchburg State Falcons received their championship rings, capping off an exhilarating journey to the MASCAC title. The ceremony took place in Hammond Hall’s Main Lounge, marking a triumphant moment for the team after an unforgettable 2024-25 season.

In a heartfelt address, Fitchburg State President Donna Hodge praised the players and staff, stating, “Today is the culmination of that tremendous ride. The championship belongs to far more than the players on the ice.” All members of last year’s championship team were honored with rings, celebrating their collective effort and dedication.

The Falcons, who entered the playoffs as the fourth seed, achieved remarkable victories, including a thrilling triple-overtime win against No. 3 Salem State in the semifinals. Coach Dean Fuller reflected on the rollercoaster season, noting, “I was very proud of this team. Winning’s not easy.”

Captain Michael Macchioni, who supported his teammates during his injury, expressed his emotions, saying, “It’s honestly so surreal to be getting these rings and feeling this love again.” He highlighted the importance of the team’s bond and his pride in their accomplishments.

With the rings presented, the Falcons turned their focus to their immediate challenge: a match later today against Babson in Wellesley.

As the players celebrated their achievements, graduate student Christian Halbig recalled the pivotal moment that solidified their championship run—a goal during the semifinal game that ended dramatically in the third overtime. “Honestly, it was surreal. It’s something I can look back on in 10, 15, 20 years and be really proud of,” he said.

The excitement surrounding the Falcons is palpable as they prepare to continue their journey on the ice. With the championship rings now a symbol of their dedication, the team is ready to face their next challenge head-on.
