The 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade promises a star-studded lineup featuring an array of popular artists. Among the performers are Ciara, Foreigner, Lil Jon, Kool & the Gang, Busta Rhymes, Mickey Guyton, and Teyana Taylor. This year’s event will also highlight the cultural phenomenon of “KPop Demon Hunters,” with performances by the film’s singers and appearances of beloved characters in balloon form.
An eclectic mix of talent will grace the parade, including ballet dancer Tiler Peck and Sean Evans, host of YouTube’s “Hot Ones.” They will join other artists such as Audrey Nuna, EJAE, and Rei Ami of the fictional girl group HUNTR/X. This group is central to the Netflix K-pop hit and is responsible for the film’s soundtrack, which recently achieved No. 1 status on the Billboard 200 and went platinum.
Parade Highlights and New Features
The parade will commence at 8:30 a.m. on November 27, 2023, across all time zones. Organizers have confirmed an impressive lineup that includes 32 balloons, 27 floats, 33 clown groups, and 11 marching bands, all leading up to the arrival of Santa Claus. Familiar faces from the “Today” show, including Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker, will return as hosts on NBC and Peacock, with additional star announcements anticipated.
Broadway will also be well represented, featuring cast members from productions like “Buena Vista Social Club,” “Just in Time,” and “Ragtime.” Notable athletes, such as three-time U.S. national champion figure skater Ilia Malinin and U.S. Paralympian Jack Wallace, will participate, adding to the diverse array of talent.
Last year’s parade attracted over 31 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. Organizers are aiming to build on this momentum with new attractions.
This year’s event will see the debut of four new character balloons, including Buzz Lightyear, Pac-Man, Mario from “Super Mario Brothers,” and a whimsical 32-foot-tall balloon onion carriage featuring characters from the world of “Shrek.”
Returning Favorites and New Floats
To celebrate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the parade, organizers are reintroducing balloons from past events, such as Rainbow Trout and Freida the Dachshund. A total of six new floats will also make their debut, featuring brands like Holland America Line, Lego, and Lindt chocolates, alongside themed floats from “Stranger Things” and whimsical sheep courtesy of Serta.
Attendees can expect performances from a variety of artists, including Jewel, Debbie Gibson, Drew Baldridge, Matteo Bocelli, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Meg Donnelly, Christopher Jackson, and many others. Marching bands from various regions, including South Carolina, California, Texas, and even Santiago, Panama, will contribute to the festive atmosphere.
