Veterans Hall of Fame Honors MSgt George Krigbaum’s Legacy

UPDATE: The Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame has just honored MSgt (ret.) George Roland Krigbaum for his decades of dedicated service to the United States and his community. This prestigious recognition, announced today, underscores Krigbaum’s extraordinary contributions both in the military and beyond.

Krigbaum’s journey began in July 1960 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately after high school. Over a remarkable 20-year military career, he served in critical roles, including operations during the Vietnam War. His first overseas tour at Keflavik Naval Air Station in Iceland in 1962 set the tone for a life defined by honor and commitment.

During his service, Krigbaum witnessed pivotal moments in American history, including the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. His assignments spanned the globe, culminating in significant operations at U-Tapao Air Force Base in Thailand in 1967, where his unit was integral in deploying B-52 Stratofortresses.

After retiring in 1980, Krigbaum’s commitment to veterans and his community only intensified. As Commander of VFW Post 2214 in Cullman from 1998 to 2001, he led efforts to rename a street to Veterans Drive and restored a historic artillery cannon, fostering local pride among veterans.

Krigbaum’s leadership continued as he took on roles within the American Legion, eventually serving as Department Commander for Alabama in 2013 and 2014. His passion for service has resulted in more than 700 new members recruited into the organization, earning him the prestigious Gold Brigade Medal for twelve consecutive years.

Beyond his military and organizational achievements, Krigbaum is a family man and community pillar. His influence extends to the next generation, where he mentors youth through various programs, instilling values of patriotism and civic duty.

In a statement from the Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame, officials praised Krigbaum as a living legacy of integrity and service.

“George exemplifies the core values of the military and the enduring spirit of American veterans,”

they stated, highlighting his unwavering dedication to elevating others and preserving military history.

This honor not only recognizes Krigbaum’s past contributions but also serves as a reminder of the vital role veterans play in shaping communities and inspiring future leaders. As the Cullman Veterans Hall of Fame celebrates this remarkable individual, the impact of his service continues to resonate in the lives he has touched.
