Branson Girls Volleyball Defeats Redwood, Prepares for Marin Catholic Rematch

UPDATE: The Branson School girls volleyball team has secured a decisive victory against Redwood High School, winning in straight sets, and is now set to defend its title against Marin Catholic this Saturday at 7 p.m.

In a thrilling semifinal of the North Coast Section Open Division held at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, Branson showcased its dominance with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 victory. This win allows Branson, seeded fourth, to avenge a previous loss to the top-seeded Redwood team earlier in the season.

The Bulls (19-7) came out strong, jumping to early leads of 8-3 and 17-5 in the first set, thanks to exceptional performances from Abby King and Blake Cussen. Branson displayed a powerful and diversified attack, with four players registering at least nine kills, led by Ella Tsai with 14 kills and Ellie Corsello contributing 11 kills.

“This victory is a testament to our hard work and determination,” said Tsai. “We want that title back, and we won’t let it slip away.”

The stakes are high as the Bulls prepare to face the second-seeded Marin Catholic (25-6), a rematch of last year’s final. “We feel like the title belongs to us, and we’re going to fight to keep it,” said Tsai, expressing the team’s fiery motivation.

Branson’s victory also highlighted the impact of their strong defensive play, with libero Lucy Tusher recording 13 digs. Coach Michelle Brazil praised her team’s ability to mix up their offensive strategy, which kept Redwood’s blockers guessing.

Redwood, having enjoyed a first-round bye prior to this match, struggled to find its rhythm. Coach Danielle Leverte acknowledged that the extended break may have affected their performance, stating, “It’s tough to come off a long layoff and expect to perform at your peak.”

The upcoming final against Marin Catholic marks the third encounter between these teams this season, with Branson having won their previous regular-season match. The Bulls are eager to continue their winning streak and reclaim their title, while Marin Catholic aims to assert its dominance after a strong season.

As the championship date approaches, the excitement is palpable. Fans are encouraged to attend Saturday’s showdown to support Branson in their quest to defend their title and solidify their place in North Coast Section history.
