Over 2,000 in Central PA Without Power After Fierce Storms

UPDATE: Over 2,000 customers in central Pennsylvania remain without power following severe storms that swept through the region late Wednesday night. As of 6 a.m. Thursday, PPL reported that more than 83,700 customers experienced power interruptions, with restoration efforts ongoing.

The storm has wreaked havoc across multiple counties, particularly in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Lancaster, where many residents are facing extended outages. According to Jane George, a spokesperson for PPL, crews are working tirelessly to restore power and will not cease until every affected customer is back online.

“We know how difficult it is to be without power,” George stated. The anticipated repair times for most outages are expected to range from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, leaving many families in the dark for hours longer.

The storm brought winds gusting up to 55 mph, causing significant debris accumulation on roadways, including fallen leaves and branches. Authorities are advising caution when traveling, as downed trees have also been reported throughout the area.

With restoration efforts in full swing, PPL has already successfully restored power to over 66,140 customers since the storm’s peak. However, the situation remains urgent as thousands still await the return of their electricity.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on restoration timelines and report any downed lines or hazards to local authorities. For those without power, it is advisable to prepare for potential extended outages and ensure safety measures are in place.

As the situation develops, PPL will provide further updates on restoration efforts. Stay tuned for the latest information as crews work diligently to return power to central Pennsylvania.
