Jets Welcome Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie III After Trades

The New York Jets have added new talent to their roster with the acquisition of wide receivers Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie III. Both players are eager to embrace fresh starts following their respective trades, bringing new potential to the Jets’ offense.

Adonai Mitchell joined the Jets in a trade that sent star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts. In return for Gardner, the Jets received a first-round draft pick in 2026, another first-round pick in 2027, and Mitchell. The trade was finalized on November 7, 2025, and both Mitchell and head coach Aaron Glenn were surprised by the connection they unknowingly shared from their past.

Mitchell attended Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas, where one of Glenn’s daughters also studied. Upon learning of their connection, Glenn remarked, “Pretty funny story.” He later asked his daughter if she knew Mitchell, to which she confirmed they had mutual friends.

In reflecting on his transition to the Jets, Mitchell said, “I actually got to have a couple of conversations with him. He told me that he was very familiar with the Missouri City area and I may have gone to school with his daughter.” The young receiver is looking forward to contributing to the team, particularly as a complementary option alongside the Jets’ No. 1 receiver, Garrett Wilson.

Mitchell, a second-round pick out of Texas in 2024, struggled to make an impact with the Colts this season. He faced challenges on the field, including a notable fumble during a game against the Los Angeles Rams that cost him his first career touchdown. After limited playing time, he expressed his disappointment but emphasized his excitement about the opportunity with the Jets. “I’m happy I didn’t find out through social media. I was able to have my conversation with the GM, the head coach,” Mitchell said. “It was a very emotional day.”

John Metchie III Also Seeks Opportunity with Jets

Similarly, John Metchie III has joined the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade for cornerback Michael Carter II. Metchie originally moved from the Houston Texans to Philadelphia earlier in the season. He has recorded four catches for 18 yards this year and is optimistic about his potential impact with the Jets.

Metchie, a second-round pick from Alabama in 2022, faced adversity in his rookie season after being diagnosed with leukemia. Now, he views his latest trade as another opportunity to showcase his skills. “I’m more of an optimist, so it was just more opportunistic,” he noted.

Glenn praised Metchie’s abilities, particularly in the slot position, stating, “Metchie is a really good slot receiver. He is a master when it comes to the route concepts in the slot.” The Jets are hopeful that Metchie’s familiarity with similar offensive systems will ease his transition to the team.

Both players are currently adapting to the Jets’ playbook, and it remains uncertain whether they will participate in the upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns. Glenn commented, “They’re still learning our system. I can’t promise you that, but they’ll definitely be a part of what we’ve got going on.”

The Jets are set to face the Browns on Sunday at 1 p.m., a critical matchup as they look to integrate their new players and improve their performance moving forward. With both Mitchell and Metchie eager to make their mark, the Jets’ offense may be poised for a revitalization as the season progresses.
