Bay Village Unveils Urgent Repairs for Cahoon Park in 2026 Budget

UPDATE: Bay Village officials just announced critical improvements to Cahoon Park in the proposed 2026 budget, ensuring residents will see significant upgrades next year. The city plans to allocate $50,000 for park enhancements, including vital repairs to the gazebo and the pool floor, addressing safety concerns and improving accessibility.

City Council’s Finance Committee is currently reviewing the budget, aiming for approval before the end of this year. The upgrades to the gazebo, which plays a crucial role in community events like the Memorial Day program, are particularly urgent. “The gazebo has shown deterioration around the posts,” stated Mary Kay Costello, director of public service and properties, during a budget hearing on November 10, 2025.

The gazebo’s concrete base is cracking and requires immediate attention. According to Costello, an architect has assessed the structure and plans to replace the concrete to prevent further damage from water issues. The goal is to enhance drainage and improve stability, while also ensuring compliance with ADA requirements to better accommodate veterans and individuals with mobility challenges.

In addition to gazebo repairs, the city will invest up to $382,000 to resurface the pool floor at the Bay Village Family Aquatic Center. This renovation will include necessary plumbing investigations to eliminate leaks, ensuring the facility is ready for summer 2026. “The pool floor is cracked and bubbling,” said Dan Enovitch, highlighting the need for maintenance since its last major update in 2010.

Furthermore, a new canopy will be added to the patio area at the Bay Lodge, aimed at increasing usage of this space for events and gatherings. Costello emphasized the importance of providing shade to encourage community interaction in this underutilized area.

These developments at Cahoon Park are vital not only for enhancing recreational facilities but also for fostering community spirit in Bay Village. With the budget hearings underway, residents are encouraged to voice their support for these crucial improvements.

Next Steps: As the Finance Committee finalizes the budget, residents should stay informed on upcoming meetings and opportunities to provide feedback. Approval of the proposed budget is anticipated soon, setting the stage for these significant upgrades in 2026.
