Camden Hills Wins Historic First State Football Championship!

UPDATE: In a stunning display of athletic prowess, Camden Hills has just clinched its first-ever state football championship, dominating Spruce Mountain with a score of 52-26 on Saturday, November 15 at Edward Little High School in Auburn. The Windjammers showcased an offensive clinic that will be remembered in school history.

Star quarterback Hollis Schwalm, playing in his final game, was a force, accounting for an astonishing 32 points through three rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass. The Windjammers’ defense also contributed significantly with five turnovers, sealing their historic win.

This victory marks a monumental achievement for Camden Hills, a team that has only been a full-fledged varsity program since 2009. Coach Chris Christie praised his team’s heart and determination, stating, “We played with utter heart, grit and determination today.”

The Windjammers took control early, leading 8-0 after the first quarter. A flurry of scoring in the second quarter saw them extend their lead to 32-12 by halftime. Schwalm’s impressive plays, including a stunning 67-yard touchdown run, kept the momentum firmly in Camden Hills’ favor.

Junior Braden Beveridge was another standout, scoring a touchdown and securing two interceptions, exuding the excitement that comes with achieving a lifelong dream. “This is the stuff you dream about since you’re six years old watching a high school football game,” he expressed.

The Windjammers’ victory is even more remarkable considering their challenging path to this championship. The team faced cancellations, low player numbers, and early playoff exits before finally finding their footing in the newly established eight-man division. Now, they are not just champions but also a symbol of resilience and determination.

Looking ahead, Camden Hills ends its season with an impressive 10-1 record, while Spruce Mountain concludes at 8-2. The future looks bright for Camden Hills, as Coach Christie noted, “There were a lot of freshmen and sophomores out there playing today. The future looks pretty solid for us.”

With this victory, the Windjammers can now proudly add their names to the championship banner in their gymnasium, forever etching their achievement in school history. The excitement in the halls of Camden Hills is palpable, and the community is eager to celebrate this unprecedented achievement.
