Aztecs Dominate San Jose State 25-3, Perfect at Home This Season

UPDATE: San Diego State University (SDSU) continues its impressive season, securing a commanding 25-3 victory over San Jose State on November 22, 2025, at Snapdragon Stadium. This win marks SDSU’s perfect home record of 6-0 this season, solidifying their position as frontrunners in the Mountain West Conference.

The Aztecs (9-2, 6-1 MW) displayed sheer dominance from the start, with safety Dwayne McDougle intercepting Spartans quarterback Walker Eget on the third play of the game. McDougle returned the interception 25 yards to the Spartans’ 20-yard line, setting the stage for an early touchdown.

Running back Lucky Sutton, a local star from San Diego, rushed for a one-yard touchdown, and in a bold move, SDSU opted for a two-point conversion. Senior special teams standout DJ Herman successfully passed to fellow senior Brady Anderson, pushing the score to 8-0.

As the first quarter ticked down, kicker Gabriel Plascencia extended the lead with a 35-yard field goal, bringing the score to 11-0. San Jose State managed to get on the board with a 37-yard field goal from kicker Mathias Brown in the second quarter, but SDSU responded just before halftime with a touchdown from quarterback Jayden Denegal, making it 18-3 at the break.

“It’s amazing,” Denegal said post-game, reflecting on the team’s performance. “But we’ve just got to keep getting better day-by-day.”

Denegal completed 7 of 11 passes for 79 yards, while Sutton contributed 47 rushing yards on 14 attempts. The Aztecs capped the game with another touchdown from Chris Washington, sealing the score at 25-3.

“Tonight meant a lot; I’ve been here all four years,” Washington expressed, highlighting the emotional weight of the Senior Night celebration.

SDSU now finds itself winners of eight of their last nine games, with their eyes set on the upcoming matchup against New Mexico. The Aztecs will travel to New Mexico for their final regular-season game on Friday at 12:30 p.m., broadcast live on CBS Sports Network. A victory would likely secure their spot in the Mountain West Championship game on December 5.

This game also marks a significant moment in conference history, as SDSU, alongside several other teams, prepares to transition from the Mountain West to the Pac-12, effective July 1. This raises the stakes for the rivalry, potentially making it the last faceoff between these two teams for the foreseeable future.

“That was fun; a good way to send off our seniors,” said head coach Sean Lewis. “The reward for the work that we’ve done is more work. The work is the reward.”

As the Aztecs gear up for their final game, the excitement and anticipation build among fans who are eager to see how this season will conclude.
