Madison County Sheriff Issues Urgent Travel Advisory Amid Snowstorm

UPDATE: Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood has just issued an urgent travel advisory for Madison County effective Friday, Nov. 28, 2023. The advisory comes as the area faces a severe lake effect snow warning, leading to treacherous driving conditions.

Lake effect snow bands are currently creating whiteout conditions and dangerously slippery roads. Authorities predict that the snow accumulation could reach between 7 to 15 inches across the region, lasting until 7 a.m. Saturday. Road crews are actively deployed to combat the adverse weather, but motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution.

Sheriff Hood emphasized the importance of safety: “We want to remind people to be cautious. If you go out on the roads, make sure you give yourself plenty of time and give the plow trucks plenty of space. We want everyone to get to their destinations safely, including our plow truck drivers and our first responders.”

While the travel advisory does not impose a travel ban, it strongly urges residents to limit their driving whenever possible. Motorists are advised to allocate extra time for their journeys and maintain a safe distance when approaching intersections or other vehicles.

This advisory is crucial as the winter weather poses significant risks to public safety. Updates will be provided if conditions change, and residents are encouraged to stay informed.

As the storm develops, the community is reminded of the importance of vigilance on the roads. Share this information to help spread awareness and keep others safe during this hazardous weather event.
