Urgent Chanukah Celebration in Mobile to Aid Local Food Bank

UPDATE: Two major Chanukah events are set to take place in Mobile, Alabama, in just two weeks, with a compelling twist: they will support the local community through food donations for Feeding the Gulf Coast.

Chabad of Mobile has announced these festive celebrations, inviting the community to contribute canned goods that will be used to create a large menorah known as the CAN-NORAH. The menorah will be lit during the events, with all donated cans going directly to families in need across the Mobile and Baldwin areas.

Mark your calendars! The celebrations are scheduled for December 2023. These events promise to be meaningful and fun, drawing on community spirit and generosity to make a significant impact. Local officials, including the new Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, will participate in the ceremonial menorah lighting, underscoring the event’s importance.

Over the next three weeks, residents are urged to donate non-perishable food items. Donations can be dropped off at Chabad or monetary contributions can be made to purchase cans. The initiative aims to not only celebrate the festival of lights but also to shine a light on the critical issue of food insecurity in the region.

Why does this matter? As the holiday season approaches, many families face increased challenges. This initiative not only promotes the spirit of Chanukah but also directly addresses local hunger. Together, we can help brighten lives during this festive season.

All cans used for the menorah will be donated to Feeding the Gulf Coast after the events. With your help, thousands of meals can be provided to those struggling in our community.

For those wishing to participate, details on the exact dates and locations of the celebrations will be shared soon. Stay tuned, and let’s come together to make a difference this Chanukah!
