Hotel Café Announces Closure of Original Location After 25 Years

The iconic Hotel Café, a staple of the Los Angeles music scene for the past 25 years, will close its original location on Cahuenga Boulevard in early 2026. The venue, known for nurturing emerging talent and hosting numerous performances, made the announcement on its Instagram account on November 4, 2024.

In a heartfelt message titled “A note before we go,” the Hotel Café shared its journey from a humble coffee shop with a small stage to a beloved venue that has hosted over a million fans. The post expressed gratitude for the community that has formed around the establishment, stating, “The Hotel Café has been more than a venue. It has been a family, a refuge, a launchpad for countless careers, and a place where magic regularly happens.”

Following the closure, the Hotel Café plans to reopen in a new location at Lumina Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard in the first half of 2027. This move aims to expand the venue’s capacity while maintaining the “soul and intimacy of the original” space. The owners emphasized their commitment to providing a “modern and elevated experience” for both audiences and performers.

Social media has seen an outpouring of fond memories from patrons reflecting on their experiences at the Hotel Café. One user remarked, “I saw my very first show in LA at The Hotel Café. Played my very first sold-out LA show at The Hotel Café. MET MY WIFE at The Hotel Café.” This sentiment echoes the feelings of many who consider the venue a crucial part of their Los Angeles experience.

The Hotel Café has contributed significantly to the music landscape, even launching its own tour and record label during its tenure. It has attracted attention from industry professionals, including Alexandra Patsavas, the music supervisor for “Grey’s Anatomy,” who frequently visited to scout new talent. The venue has been instrumental in the careers of artists such as Meiko and Adele, who gained exposure through performances there.

While specific dates for both the closure and the anticipated reopening have not yet been confirmed, Hotel Café’s website lists several events scheduled through December 16, 2024. As the venue prepares for this transition, the legacy of the Hotel Café as a nurturing ground for artists and a gathering place for music lovers will undoubtedly endure.
