The merger of two longstanding funeral homes in Lynn, Massachusetts, marks a significant development in community service. Parker Funeral Home and Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home are joining forces to enhance their commitment to compassionate care for local families. This partnership follows Richard Parker’s decision to transition into semi-retirement after decades of leadership in the family-run business.
Parker Funeral Home, founded in 1919 by Herman W. Parker, has been an integral part of the Lynn community for generations. Initially established at 559 Chestnut Street, the firm relocated to its current site on Franklin Street, where it continued to serve families through significant milestones in their lives. After Herman’s passing in 1946, his sons, Wendell C. and Hilton C. Parker, took over. The business was later passed to Douglas Richard Parker, whose son Richard joined in 1974 and took over leadership in 1990.
While Richard Parker will reduce his workload, he will remain actively involved with the Cuffe-McGinn team, ensuring a seamless transition for families who have relied on his support. “It means I’ll only be working part-time,” Parker stated, emphasizing his continued commitment to assist families during their times of need.
The Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home also boasts a rich history in Lynn, dating back to 1934 when Walter A. Cuffe, Sr. opened his first facility on Johnson Street. The home merged with the McGinn Funeral Home, founded by Lawrence G. and William E. McGinn, in 1976. The current location on Maple Street has expanded over the years, becoming one of the largest funeral homes on the North Shore following renovations in 1981 and 1992.
Today, Cuffe-McGinn is part of the Dignity Memorial network, which provides additional resources while maintaining a commitment to personalized, community-focused service. “This partnership feels like a natural continuation of two families who have spent generations serving Lynn,” said Eric Daniels, General Manager of Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home.
As both funeral homes unite, their shared goal remains clear: to honor Lynn families with the same compassion, respect, and familiarity that have characterized their services for decades.
