Barton Community College Music Ensembles Delight Seniors with Holiday Performance

Barton Community College’s music ensembles brought holiday cheer to the Great Bend Senior Center on December 1, 2023. The guitar class and ensemble, which launched this fall, showcased a selection of festive music, marking one of their first public performances.

The event not only entertained the seniors but also highlighted the college’s commitment to community engagement through the arts. Conducted by Jamie Minneman, the guitar ensemble was joined by the Barton String Ensemble, providing a rich auditory experience for the attendees.

Upcoming Holiday Concert Featuring Various Ensembles

The guitar ensemble’s next performance is slated for the BCC Holiday Concert on December 4, 2023, at 19:30 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission to this event is free, although donations will be accepted to support the college’s music programs. This concert promises to be a festive celebration, featuring not only the guitar ensemble but also the Barton Concert Choir, Hilltop Singers, JazzCats, and Barton Dance Theatre.

In addition to the musical performances, the evening will honor faculty and alumni with inductions into the second year of Barton’s Fine and Performing Arts Hall of Fame, further emphasizing the institution’s dedication to excellence in the arts.

Opportunities for Aspiring Musicians

Barton Community College has also created opportunities for students through its music programs. With orchestra classes not resuming until spring, the establishment of the string ensemble allows musicians to engage in chamber music. This initiative not only enhances their skills but also fosters collaboration among students passionate about music.
